Here you can see that the flashing is cut flat with no bend into the mortar joint. And that this is the second application of cauking. The original caulking, (the lighter gray) cracked and separated and was then re caulked. The new caulking was poorly installed and completely misses the original cracked caulking, and is already drying out, cracking, and pulling away from the chimney brick.
